Sandbanks hotels compared

The table runs from the beach outwards. Rooms, facilities and parking are from each hotel's own website, read on 31 October 2026. The times to Sandbanks beach are estimates from OpenStreetMap routing between postcode centres, to the council's Sandbanks car park and beach office (BH13 7QQ), with no traffic; a postcode centre can sit 100 metres or so from the front door.

Which Sandbanks hotel is on the beach?

Two of the three. Sandbanks Hotel says it is "located directly on Sandbanks Beach", only a few steps from its terrace, and its postcode is at the Shore Road end of the peninsula, about 4 minutes' walk from the Shore Road car park by the routing estimate. The main beach office and the 532-space council car park are further west, about 17 minutes on foot.

Haven Hotel is at the very tip, beside the chain ferry slipway. Its leisure club opens onto what the hotel calls Haven Beach, three small sandy coves that are tidal and not lifeguarded, and the main Sandbanks beach runs on from there. In 2026, RNLI lifeguards patrolled Sandbanks beach daily from 10am to 6pm between 28 March and 27 September (BCP Council: lifeguards and beach safety); the Sandbanks beach page has its facilities and dog rules.

Harbour Heights is on Haven Road, and its harbour-view rooms look over Poole Harbour and Brownsea Island rather than the open sea. Its nearest sand is Shore Road beach, about 0.3 miles away by the estimate.

Sea view or harbour view rooms

Sandbanks Hotel sells both sides of the peninsula. Its sea-view rooms look over Sandbanks beach, and its Harbour View with Balcony rooms over Poole Harbour and Brownsea Island. Each of its five sea-view and harbour-view double room types has a balcony. The superior rooms on both sides, which have Nespresso machines and lounge areas, are up a flight of stairs, which the hotel flags on its rooms page.

At Haven Hotel, the Seaview Double lists no balcony; the Seaview Double Deluxe adds a private balcony and floor-to-ceiling windows on two sides. Its Deluxe Doubles are either larger rear-facing rooms or smaller side-facing ones with partial sea views, so ask which you are getting. The harbour-facing room is the Poole Harbour Double with Balcony.

None of the Harbour Heights room types is sold on a sea view. Three of its four are sold on the harbour view, and the Harbour View Double Deluxe, which the hotel calls its finest room, has two Juliet balconies. All four types list a spa bath, air conditioning and a fridge.

Hotels across Bournemouth with sea-view rooms are compared in sea-view hotels in Bournemouth.

Does the Sandbanks Hotel have a swimming pool?

Yes: a heated 10-metre indoor pool with a shallow area for small children, plus a gym and sauna, open 9am to 5pm (FJB Hotels: Sandbanks Hotel families). The hotel also runs the Watersports Academy, with hire or tuition in windsurfing, paddleboarding, kayaking and sailing, and has an outdoor pirate-themed play area next to its beach terrace.

Haven Hotel has the longest list of leisure facilities of the three: indoor hydrotherapy pools, a sea-view hot tub, sauna, steam rooms and a gym, open daily 9am to 5pm, plus a heated outdoor pool that closes for the winter from 30 September (FJB Hotels: Haven leisure club). Massage Merit Spa treatments are bookable Tuesday to Saturday. Pools at hotels across the area are set side by side in Bournemouth hotels with pools.

Parking at Sandbanks hotels

Each of the three FJB rooms pages lists free parking, first come first served, and FJB says all three hotels have universal electric vehicle chargers for guests and diners (FJB Hotels: Sandbanks Hotel). The pages do not give the number of spaces, so ask the hotel about space when booking.

If the hotel car park is full, BCP's Sandbanks surface car park is on its winter tariff until 14 March 2027: £1.80 for an hour or £3.90 until 10pm, with no charge after 10pm. From 15 March to 31 October it charges up to £25 for 14 hours (BCP Council: Sandbanks surface car park). Every car park and road on the peninsula, with both seasons' prices, is in Sandbanks parking.

Staying at Canford Cliffs

The Canford is a Young's pub with 11 bedrooms on Cliff Drive, in Canford Cliffs village. It gives its own walking times (The Canford: local area): Canford Cliffs beach 3 minutes and Branksome Chine 14 minutes. Its room grades run Cosy, Boutique, Bigger Boutique and Feature Boutique, and it has a few family rooms and dog rooms, which have to be asked for when booking. Check-in is from 3pm (The Canford: contact). It names Branksome and Parkstone as the nearest stations and the number 50 bus as the link to Bournemouth and Swanage.

Staying at Studland, across the ferry

Knoll House is on Ferry Road, Studland, about 3.7 miles from the Sandbanks beach office by road and ferry, by the routing estimate. A path through its gardens reaches Middle Beach in a few minutes, and the South West Coast Path can be picked up from the gardens. It has a heated outdoor pool in the warmer months with a children's paddling pool, an indoor plunge pool, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi open all year, two tennis courts and a nine-hole pitch-and-putt course. There are no lifeguards at the pools.

The leisure facilities are free only when booked direct; otherwise the hotel charges £10 a person for each day of the stay. Every room is dog friendly, for up to two dogs per booking at £20 per dog a night, and dogs can go everywhere except the restaurant, children's areas and the Wardroom (Knoll House: dog friendly).

Check prices for Knoll House on Expedia →Free use of the pool, spa and leisure facilities is for bookings made direct with Knoll House. Booked through this link, the hotel charges £10 per person per day of the stay.

The Bankes Arms is a 16th-century pub on Manor Road, Studland, with ten bed and breakfast rooms above the bar. Eight are en suite and two share a bathroom. The front rooms look across Studland Bay; the side and rear rooms face the Purbeck countryside. Breakfast is included. Rooms booked on its own site are paid in full when booked, with a full refund for cancellations more than 14 days ahead, 50% at 7 to 14 days, and none inside seven days.

The Pig on the Beach, also in Studland, is not in the table: its website blocked automated checking on 31 October 2026.

Frequently asked questions

Which Sandbanks hotels take dogs?

Haven Hotel takes dogs and cats by prior arrangement, in certain bedrooms, with no fee published; the Sandbanks Hotel and Harbour Heights pages say nothing about dogs. Off the peninsula, The Canford charges £25 per dog (its page gives this as both per night and per stay) and Knoll House £20 per dog a night. Rules for each are in dog-friendly hotels in Poole and Sandbanks.

Can you get to Sandbanks hotels without a car?

Yes. The morebus Purbeck Breezer 50 runs from Bournemouth through Westbourne and Sandbanks to Shell Bay, Studland and Swanage (morebus: Purbeck Breezer 50), crossing on the chain ferry, so check morebus for changes while the ferry is away for its refit. BCP Council gives the nearest stations as Parkstone (2.6 miles), Poole (2.9 miles) and Branksome (3 miles) from Sandbanks beach (BCP Council: Sandbanks beach).

Are there other hotels near Sandbanks?

Two more, Salterns Harbourside at Lilliput and Milsoms on Haven Road, appear on booking sites, but neither hotel's own website could be reached on 31 October 2026, so neither is listed here. For hotels in Poole Old Town and by the quay, about 12 to 16 minutes' drive from the Sandbanks hotels by estimate, see hotels near Poole Quay; hotels across the rest of Poole, including Holes Bay and the north of the town, are in hotels in Poole.
