- Monkey World: Frequently Asked Questions
Booking online saves £1 on an adult ticket, 75p on a child or senior ticket and £2.75 on a family ticket. The family ticket is the bigger saving: two adults and two children bought separately online come to £60, against £50.75 for the family ticket, and £63.50 at the gate against £53.50. A single parent family ticket saves £4.50 online on one adult and two children bought separately.
Do you need to book Monkey World in advance?
No, tickets are still sold at the gate, but Monkey World says that if the park reaches capacity, visitors without a pre-booked ticket will not be let in. Online bookings choose a date and an entry time slot. The slots exist to spread out the queue at the entrance, so arriving outside your slot still gets you in, and there is no set time to leave.
Every visitor has to be on the booking, including free under-3s and essential carers. The confirmation email carries a reference number to quote at the gate, and Monkey World suggests printing or saving it because mobile signal on site is poor. Groups booked together must arrive and check in together.
Can you change or refund a Monkey World ticket?
Online tickets are not refundable, unless the park itself closes. The date can be changed by the admin office up to 72 hours before the visit for a £5 admin fee, on 01929 462537, option 3 (Monkey World: Frequently Asked Questions). Bad weather on its own is not a reason for a refund: the park stays open in rain unless it becomes unsafe.
Monkey World discounts and offers
There is no Blue Light or military discount. Monkey World says all its income goes to rescue and rehabilitation and it considers its prices fair value. It also does not accept Blue Peter badges. The discounts it does publish are the family tickets, the online price, carer entry and the offers below. Its October half-term offers (Kids for a quid, and free entry for children in fancy dress on 31 October) have ended, and its events page listed no Christmas offer on 1 November 2026.

- Monkey World: Frequently Asked Questions
Group bookings go through the administration office on 01929 401003 or admin@monkeyworld.org, open 9am to 4.30pm on weekdays. Without that advance booking, a group pays the single prices.
Is a Monkey World adoption cheaper than tickets?
Only for repeat visits. An adult adoption is £38 a year plus postage, and it gives the named adoptive parent unlimited entry for that year. Two adult visits with online tickets cost £36, so the adoption costs more until the third visit (£54 in online tickets). A child or senior adoption at £28 also passes the price of tickets on the third visit, when three online child tickets reach £36. The entry pass works for the named adopter only, and staff may check ID.
Adoptive parents do not need to book online. If they do, the booking is free but needs the membership number entered exactly as printed. They also get 10% off guided tours.
Monkey World opening times
Monkey World says it is open every day of the year except Christmas Day, from 10am to 5pm. The entrance gate is not staffed after 2.30pm, and anyone arriving between 2.30pm and 4pm is asked to phone ahead on the number on the booking page (Monkey World: Book Tickets). The Treetops café by the entrance is open until 4.30pm, and outside the main season it stops serving hot food at 2.30pm.
Guided tours and talks
Keepers hold short question-and-answer sessions every day, usually with a scatter feed that brings the primates closer. They start at 12pm with the lemurs and small monkeys, then woolly monkeys at 12.30pm, chimpanzees at 1pm, orang-utans at 1.30pm, gibbons at 2pm and the spider monkeys, capuchins and stump-tailed macaques at 2.30pm (Monkey World: Guided Tours and Talks). Recorded keeper talks play from QR codes at each enclosure.
None of the paid tours includes admission:
- Personal guided tour, 1 hour 15 minutes on foot with the education team: £40 for up to 4 people, £55 for up to 6, £75 for up to 12.
- Buggy guided tour, 1 hour 15 minutes in a golf buggy, with early entry at 9am and a hot drink in Treetops afterwards: £85 for up to 4.
- Self-guided audio tour on a smartphone: £2 a device, bought at the gate, gift shop or Adoption Centre.
- Introductory tour, 30 minutes from the Adoption Centre at 10.30am: free, in December only.
Getting to Monkey World from Bournemouth
The park is on the A31 between Bere Regis and Wool, signposted with brown tourist signs; the sat nav postcode is BH20 6HH (Monkey World: Directions and Maps). The car park is free, on grass and hard standing, with disabled bays, a drop-off area and free coach parking.
Without a car, the nearest station is Wool, about 1.5 miles from the park, where Monkey World says taxis are usually waiting. Monkey World’s directions describe Wool as served by South Western Railway trains from London Waterloo, and Visit Dorset lists Bournemouth and Poole as stops on South Western Railway’s Waterloo to Weymouth service (Visit Dorset: Travelling to Dorset by train). Neither gives a journey time from Bournemouth to Wool, so check the timetable before relying on a connection. In summer First Bus route 55 serves the park directly: in 2026 it ran from 23 May to 20 September.
Is Monkey World all outside?
Mostly. Monkey World says most of its 65-acre park is outdoors and advises wet-weather clothing. Its more than 260 primates move between indoor and outdoor areas, and every enclosure has viewing windows, though the animals can retreat to areas out of sight. The walkthrough lemur enclosure is closed for refurbishment, and the lemurs are seen through a window near the spider monkeys, where they are fed between 12pm and 1pm.
For a wet day nearer the town, the indoor options are compared in things to do in Bournemouth in the rain.
Food, picnics and what you cannot bring
There are picnic areas throughout the park, three adventure playgrounds (the largest, the Great Ape Play Area, is at the far end past the capuchins), the year-round Treetops café and an outdoor Malagasy café near the orang-utan nursery (Monkey World: Facilities). Treetops lists gluten-free and vegan options. Extra kiosks open in school holidays and busy periods.
Alcohol is banned in the park, as are barbecues, balloons, bicycles, scooters and skateboards (mobility aids are allowed). There are no lockers, but visitors can get a hand stamp at the gift shop to go back to the car. Card payment is preferred: cash is taken but no change is given, and American Express is not accepted.
Dogs and accessibility
Dogs are not allowed, including assistance dogs, because the rescued primates are upset by them. Monkey World also asks visitors not to leave pets in the car, and says it may contact the authorities about a distressed animal in its car park.
The whole park is accessible to wheelchair users except the Woodland Walk, whose only enclosure is a marmoset house; some paths are uneven or have short steep cambers (Monkey World: Disabled Facilities). Wheelchairs and mobility scooters are hired from Rapid Mobility, which delivers to the park Monday to Saturday, with scooters booked in advance. Accessible toilets are near the main entrance and by the gibbons.
Frequently asked questions
Do pensioners get a discount at Monkey World?
Yes, from 65. A senior ticket is £12 online or £12.75 at the gate, the same as a child ticket, and seniors can fill the child places on a family or single parent family ticket.
Can you touch or hold the monkeys at Monkey World?
No. Monkey World says its primates live in family groups, can catch human colds and flu, and are wild animals, so there is no handling or feeding by visitors.
Can you buy Monkey World tickets as a gift?
Yes. Gift entrance tickets, tour vouchers and "Monkey Money" vouchers are sold by phone on 01929 462537, option 3, or through the online gift shop, and are valid for a year from purchase.
Where can you stay near Monkey World?
Monkey World’s directions put Bournemouth Airport about 25 miles from the park, and the park lists accommodation on its own website. Areas to stay are compared in where to stay in Bournemouth, and the Poole-side holiday parks, Rockley Park in Hamworthy and Sandford at Holton Heath, in holiday parks near Bournemouth and Poole.
