The areas compared

Distances are straight-line from Bournemouth Square, measured between map coordinates, so the road or walking route is longer, especially to Sandbanks, which sits at the end of a peninsula. Beach awards are from the council's 2026 Blue Flag announcement of 15 May 2026. Example hotels are ones whose details were checked on their own websites; an area with none listed had no hotel that could be checked.

Town centre

The town centre covers the Square, the Lower Gardens, the BIC, the Pavilion and the pier. Hotels here are mostly large and chain-run. Premier Inn Bournemouth Central on Westover Road gives the seafront and pier as a 3-minute walk, but has no on-site parking. The Hermitage, opposite the BIC, has 79 bedrooms and free parking for direct bookings.

The nearest sand is Bournemouth Beach either side of the pier, which holds a 2026 Seaside Award but not a Blue Flag. For hotels picked by distance to the venues, see hotels near the BIC and Pavilion.

West Cliff

The West Cliff is the clifftop west of the pier, roughly 0.3 to 0.5 miles from the Square, with Durley Chine beach (Blue Flag 2026) below. The hotels range from budget to spa: Travelodge Bournemouth Seafront charges £8.50 to £9.50 a night to park, THE NICI has an outdoor pool and charges £27 a night to park, and The Connaught has 66 spaces, free when booked direct.

The Bournemouth Highcliff Marriott is on the West Cliff, close to the centre. It is not in Highcliffe, the clifftop village 7 miles east in the Christchurch area; the two names differ by one letter.

East Cliff

East of the pier, the East Cliff hotels sit along East Overcliff Drive, Bath Road and Grove Road, about 0.5 to 0.8 miles from the Square. Parking is easier here than in the centre: Heathlands charges £5 per 24 hours for 65 spaces, The Green House has 32 spaces, free when booked direct, and The Cumberland's parking is free, normally £12 a day.

The East Cliff hotels are closer to the Pavilion than to the BIC. The Royal Bath on Bath Road is about 3 minutes from the Pavilion by estimate and charges £28 for valet parking.

Westbourne

Westbourne is a shopping village about a mile west of the centre, with what the tourist board calls a Victorian, Grade II-listed arcade, salons, galleries and independent shops. No hotel in Westbourne could be checked against its own website for this page, so none is named.

Alum Chine

Alum Chine is a wooded chine running down to the beach, about a mile west of the Square in a straight line. The Riviera on Burnaby Road describes itself as in the wooded area of Alum Chine, a short walk from the beach, with an indoor pool and a games room for children. Alum Chine beach itself holds no 2026 award; Durley Chine, to the east, holds a Blue Flag. For more family-focused options, see family hotels in Bournemouth.

Boscombe

Boscombe, about 1.6 miles east of the Square, is home to the O2 Academy at 570 Christchurch Road, which is a separate venue from the BIC. The tourist board's villages page lists Boscombe for antique shops, retro clothing and second-hand finds, and its beach for surfing and paddleboarding. Boscombe Beach holds a 2026 Seaside Award.

Two Boscombe hotels found in listings could not be confirmed as trading on their own websites, so none is named here. For gig parking, the BIC, Pavilion and O2 Academy parking page covers the Sovereign Centre car park next to the venue.

Southbourne

Southbourne, about 2.9 miles east of the Square, has a coastal high street of bistros, coffee houses and independent shops, according to the tourist board, and sits near Hengistbury Head. Its beach at Fisherman's Walk holds a 2026 Blue Flag. No Southbourne hotel was checked for this page.

Sandbanks and Poole

Sandbanks is in Poole, not Bournemouth: a peninsula at the mouth of Poole Harbour, about 3.9 miles from Bournemouth Square in a straight line and further by road. Sandbanks beach has held a Blue Flag every year the awards have run, 39 years in 2026, and Shore Road next to it also holds one.

The Sandbanks Hotel has direct beach access and a watersports centre with hire and tuition, plus a children's activity schedule in the summer holidays. The Haven Hotel stands at the tip of the peninsula by the Shell Bay chain ferry to the Purbecks, with a spa. Both belong to FJB Hotels. Parking at Sandbanks is covered on the Sandbanks parking page.

Poole Quay and the Old Town are about 4.7 miles from Bournemouth Square, with no beach at the quay. Hotel du Vin Poole on Thames Street has 10 on-site parking spaces at £15 overnight, first come, first served, with the Britannia Quayside car park behind it as overflow at £12.50 overnight.

Christchurch, Mudeford and Highcliffe

Christchurch is the third town in the council area (Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole), 4.7 miles from the Square to the Priory in a straight line. Christchurch Harbour Hotel at 95 Mudeford sits on the edge of Christchurch Harbour, with a spa. The Captain's Club Hotel at Wick Ferry is on the bank of the River Stour, with river-view rooms and a spa.

The nearest award beach is Avon Beach, which holds a 2026 Seaside Award. It lost its Blue Flag in 2026 through what the council called an administrative error. Highcliffe, further east at about 7.3 miles, has a Blue Flag beach. No Highcliffe hotel was checked for this page.
