Seven B&Bs compared

Every row comes from the guest house's own website, read on 4 November 2026. Where a site says nothing on a point, the table says "not stated" rather than repeat a booking site. Distances are straight lines from each postcode to Bournemouth Square and to Bournemouth station, measured between map coordinates (postcodes.io and OpenStreetMap), so the walk is longer. Areas are the council wards those postcodes sit in.

Alexander Lodge: useful information

Which B&Bs include breakfast

Three state it plainly. Alexander Lodge says its rates are "fully inclusive of continental breakfast", laid out as a buffet from 8 to 9am, with vegan and gluten-free options on request. Mory House quotes every price per room for two people sharing, including breakfast, and serves it to the room: the menu runs from fruit sundaes and frittata to bacon and eggs. Bamboo Guesthouse includes a cold spread of pastries, breads, cereals, yoghurt, cheese, ham and fruit, served from 7.30 to 10.30am.

At The Amarillo breakfast depends on the month. Its continental breakfast is in the room rate from June to September inclusive; for the rest of the year, rooms are sold room only and no breakfast is served. A November to May stay there is a room without breakfast.

Derby Manor serves a continental or English breakfast in its morning room, 8 to 9.30am on weekdays and 8 to 10am at weekends, but its site does not say whether it is in the price. The Balincourt lists English, vegetarian and light breakfasts and keeps separate fridges, ovens and toasters for meat and vegetarian food; only its Superior Double is described as including breakfast.

Parking

Four of the seven list free parking. Little Robin Gate allocates one space per room and asks owners of vehicles taller than a standard Transit van to say so in advance; it also offers electric car charging through a standard three-pin plug. Alexander Lodge has free off-road parking, and Derby Manor lists free parking without giving a number of spaces. The Amarillo has free spaces on site on a first-come basis, and says Frances Road itself has free, unrestricted parking.

Bamboo Guesthouse, the closest to the Square, has no car park. It points to limited free on-street parking outside and further free parking 5 to 10 minutes' walk away. For council car parks nearby and their current tariffs, see Bournemouth town centre parking. Mory House and The Balincourt do not mention parking on their sites. Hotels with their own car parks are compared on Bournemouth hotels with parking.

Bringing a dog

Little Robin Gate is the only B&B here that takes dogs. It accepts up to two unless agreed otherwise, subject to confirmation when booking; the dog charge appears during booking and is not published on the site. Dogs must not be left alone in the room. The rear garden is fully enclosed, and the guest house can supply bowls, bedding and dog towels if asked in advance.

Mory House takes no dogs or other animals, and Alexander Lodge accepts guide dogs only. The other four do not say. Hotels that publish their dog fees are compared on dog-friendly hotels in Bournemouth, and the beaches dogs can use in summer are on dog-friendly beaches.

Adults only, and B&Bs that take children

Derby Manor on Derby Road describes itself as an Edwardian guest house "aimed exclusively for adults". It opened in February 2016 after a refurbishment, and its rooms are named after racecourses and races, from Aintree to The Oaks.

For families, Alexander Lodge welcomes children but can fit only one extra child, in a travel cot or Z-bed in its Deluxe room, at £15 a night including breakfast. Mory House charges nothing for cot-age babies, hires a travel cot at £10 a week, and charges the adult rate for the first child sharing with one adult. Room 3 at The Amarillo can be set up for two adults and a child. Hotels with family rooms and pools are on family hotels in Bournemouth.

Southbourne B&Bs

Two of the seven are in Southbourne, about 2.8 miles east of the Square in a straight line, and both close for part of the year or set minimum stays. Alexander Lodge on Southern Road has four B&B rooms (three doubles and a single), all on the first floor. It sets a 2-night minimum all year and 3 nights at weekends and in July and August, and closes from mid-December to mid-March. In July and August only, it also lets two second-floor rooms room only, with a small kitchen.

Mory House sits midway along Grand Avenue, which runs from Southbourne's high street to the clifftop. It asks for a non-refundable deposit of £25 per person per week, and charges in full for cancellations within 7 days of arrival unless the room is re-let. Southbourne's beach at Fisherman's Walk holds a 2026 Blue Flag, according to BCP Council's 2026 beach awards; the other areas are compared on where to stay in Bournemouth.

The Amarillo, The Balincourt and Mory House do not publish check-in times on their sites. Little Robin Gate turns away hen, stag and similar parties, and its guests can use the kitchen, which has two ovens, a dishwasher and a washer-dryer.

Frequently asked questions

Can you hire a whole B&B in Bournemouth?

The Amarillo on Frances Road can be rented as a whole house on a self-catering basis, according to its own site. It has six rooms. For houses and cottages let on their own, see holiday cottages in Bournemouth.

Which Bournemouth B&B is closest to the station?

Of the seven checked, The Amarillo is the closest to Bournemouth station, about 0.3 miles in a straight line from its Frances Road postcode, followed by Little Robin Gate (0.4 miles), which gives the walk as 10 minutes. Parking at and around the station is compared on Bournemouth station parking.

Are B&Bs cheaper than hotels in Bournemouth?

Room prices change by date at both, so no general answer holds. What differs is what the price covers: at Alexander Lodge, Mory House and Bamboo Guesthouse breakfast is in the rate, while at The Amarillo it is included only from June to September and at Little Robin Gate it is an extra.
