SWR does not say on its station page where the main and Premium car parks are on the station site, or what the Premium car park offers for its higher price. Neither SWR nor National Rail gives a height limit for either. Of the council car parks, Lansdowne Road allows 2 metres and Cotlands Road and Madeira Road 2.1 metres.

How much is parking at Bournemouth train station?

In the main car park, £6 buys a weekday ticket. From 12pm on a weekday the off-peak price of £4 applies, and the same £4 covers a whole Saturday, Sunday or bank holiday. An hourly rate of £1 is offered at those off-peak times, but only through RingGo or APCOA ScanPay, not at a machine.

Longer tickets are sold for the main car park only: £23.90 a week, £83.60 a month, £250.80 a quarter and £836 a year. The Premium car park lists day prices only, £12.50 on weekdays and £8.30 from 12pm, at weekends and on bank holidays.

SWR says charges apply every day of the year, public holidays included, except on 25 and 26 December (SWR: car parking). It also advises finding a space before paying at busy times, generally before 9am on weekdays.

Station car park or council car park?

For one weekday, the station's £6 is 40p less than the £6.40 at Lansdowne Road, Cotlands Road or Madeira Road. After 12pm on a weekday, or at a weekend, the station's £4 ticket is cheaper again.

For a week away the gap is wider. The council car parks sell tickets of up to 24 hours, so seven days at Cotlands Road means seven 24-hour tickets at £6.40, which come to £44.80. The station's weekly ticket is £23.90.

The council car parks win on two points. They charge by the hour from the first hour (£2.10), where the station has no hourly rate before 12pm on weekdays. And BCP lists a height limit for each car park, which SWR does not. Cotlands Road, with 492 spaces, is the largest car park within 10 minutes' walk, and BCP describes it as off Holdenhurst Road. Town centre car parks further from the station, and their prices, are compared in Bournemouth town centre parking.

How long can I leave my car at the station?

Up to 28 days at a time. SWR's parking terms limit continuous parking to 28 days and say every vehicle must then leave the car park for at least 24 hours in each 28-day period. A stay of more than one day must be paid for day by day, or with a weekly or longer ticket (SWR: terms and conditions of parking, December 2025 (PDF)).

The same terms ban sleeping, cooking or staying in a vehicle overnight in the car park. A car parked without the right ticket can be given a Parking Charge; SWR does not state the amount.

How to pay at the station

The main car park's RingGo location code is 77477, and the Premium car park's is 77478. RingGo works through its app, online or by phone on 01256 80 28 04. The other way to pay is APCOA ScanPay: scan the QR code on the car park signs and pay by card without registering.

SWR says most daily tickets can also be bought from machines at its stations, but the hourly rate at Bournemouth is RingGo and ScanPay only. Monthly tickets are sold at ticket offices or through RingGo; quarterly and annual tickets at the ticket office. The Bournemouth ticket office is on platform 2.

Blue Badge parking at Bournemouth station

Blue Badge holders park free in the station car parks if they register the badge at bluebadge.apcoa.co.uk before 23:59 on the day they park, according to SWR's parking terms. Without registering, the normal charge applies. National Rail lists 3 accessible bays in the main car park and 4 in the Premium car park.

Where Blue Badge bays are in a short-stay area, there is no charge but the limit is 20 minutes. Lansdowne Road, the nearest council car park, has 2 disabled spaces, and Madeira Road multi-storey has 11.

Dropping off and picking up

National Rail lists three drop-off points. Two are on Holdenhurst Road: one on the station side with room for up to 5 cars, and one across a controlled crossing with room for 3. The third, on Station Approach, is for dropping off only, with room for 5. SWR's terms limit set-down and pick-up areas and 20-minute bays to people on railway business, for no more than 20 minutes.

Taxi ranks are on Station Approach and outside the Holdenhurst Road entrance. The station has entrances on both sides, each with ticket gates, and level access to both sides; the subway between platforms is a long ramp, up to 1 in 8.

Directions and the station postcode

The station's address is Holdenhurst Road, Bournemouth BH8 8HX (National Rail: Bournemouth station). By car from the A338 Wessex Way, the turn-off is the roundabout onto St Pauls Road, which Travelodge's directions describe as signposted for the railway station.

When engineering work brings in replacement buses, those to Southampton and Brockenhurst leave from the entrance on the Halfords side, and those to Poole from the entrance on the Asda side. The station has 118 cycle spaces, and Beryl hire bikes are docked by both entrances.

Hotels near the station with parking

Two hotels within about 15 minutes' walk list their own parking charges.

Premier Inn Bournemouth East Cliff, at St Swithuns roundabout on Christchurch Road, describes itself as just down the road from the station; the walk is about 9 minutes by the estimate below. It charges guests £11 a night to park. Spaces cannot be booked ahead and must be cleared by 12pm on the day of check-out. The car park is reached from York Road and has a 2.1 metre height limit. When it is full, the hotel points guests to an open-air car park on York Road, with prices on its signs (Premier Inn: Bournemouth East Cliff).

Travelodge Bournemouth, at 43 Christchurch Road, is about 14 minutes' walk away. Its car park, entered from Derby Road behind the hotel, costs guests £8.50 per 24 hours, paid by card. Spaces are first come, first served; up to 3 nights can be paid at once, but that does not keep a space if the car leaves. Blue Badge holders park free once they give reception their badge and registration (Travelodge: Bournemouth).

Hotel parking across the rest of the town, including hotels that park guests free when booked direct, is compared in Bournemouth hotels with parking.

How the walking times were worked out

Each estimate is the straight-line distance from the car park's location on BCP Council's car park map, or the hotel's postcode centre point from postcodes.io, to the station's location on National Rail's station page. That distance is scaled up by 1.3 to allow for the street layout, then converted at 80 metres a minute. On-street bays stretch along a road, so the walk depends on which bay is free, and the true time can differ by a few minutes.

Frequently asked questions

Is there EV charging at Bournemouth station?

No. National Rail lists no electric vehicle charging points in either station car park, and Bournemouth is not among the six stations where SWR has chargers. The nearest council car park with chargers is Madeira Road multi-storey, about 8 minutes' walk, which BCP lists with 2 charging points.

How far is Bournemouth Airport from the train station?

About 5.8 miles by road, an estimated 11 minutes' drive without traffic. The morebus 737 links the two on weekdays only, with two morning buses to the airport. Times and taxi details are in Bournemouth Airport to the town centre.

How far is the station from the beach?

About 25 minutes on foot. The usual route is down Holdenhurst Road and then Bath Road; the alternative goes through the town centre, down Old Christchurch Road and through the Lower Gardens. Seafront car parks and their seasonal prices are in Bournemouth beach parking.
